AdSense Alternative: Burst! Media

Burst! Media is an 11 year old operation that places advertising on ‘4,200 premium, specialty-content websites’ that are sub- divided into over 400 content sub-channels.

Burst! offers two different programs, ‘Burst Network’ and ‘Burst Direct’. It is the first of these that is the one that we are principally interested in.

Burst state on their ‘eligibility’ page that your site must ‘Represent specialty content’ and enjoy at least 5000 page views a month.

You must also have a clearly defined ‘Privacy’ policy on your site, which must reside on a top level domain (so no Geocities or Lycos freebie pages are acceptable)

Not unnaturally, therefore, as a site publisher, you may wonder just how specialized a website has to be to qualify for the Burst! Media publisher program.

Well, here are some of the organizations who the company themselves claim are already advertisers with Burst!

From this list, maybe you can decide how specialized your site would have to be to carry targeted ads from some of these organizations:

Alamo
AllState
Aloha Air
Ask.com
BellSouth
Disney
Delta
Dollar Thrifty Group Entreprenuer.com Equifax

ESPN Expedia Ford Lincoln John Deere Lane Bryant

McAfee
Michelin
Microsoft
Monster Worldwide NY Times

Pontiac
SBC AT&T Skechers
Sprint Air
State Farm
Vonage
Walgreens
Wall Street Journal Weight Watchers

Looking at this list, I would tend to suggest that the definition of ‘specialty’ that Burst! seem to apply is quite a wide one!

Also note that Burst! focus their efforts on Canada, UK and USA – indeed, on their application form, whilst you can choose other countries, the drop down ‘state’ menu only includes US States! (AL-WI).

Basically, Burst! is a viable AdSense alternative, but, a little like Advertsing.com, it is really one for the bigger site owner.
